French Mutual Benevolent Society
The French Mutual Benevolent Society was founded in 1851 in San Francisco by French-American immigrants. It is a nonprofit association that established San Francisco’s French Hospital and its associated HMO, the first in the nation. The Society works to document the history of the French Hospital and French-American culture in Northern California and contributes to medical scholarships for students at UCSF and Stanford medical schools.
